Bryson DeChambeau's Epic Recovery: From Topped Drive to Sharing the Lead at LIV Adelaide (2026)

Bryson DeChambeau rebounded from a mis-hit to share the early lead at LIV Adelaide alongside local favorite Marc Leishman after the opening round. The two-time US Open champion logged seven birdies and a single bogey, finishing at 66.

DeChambeau’s surprising mishap came when a thinning drive on the par-five 10th at Grange Golf Club sent the ball skimming along the cart path, before it caromed back into play and onto the fairway. Despite the odd result, he still reached the green in two and converted with a birdie, then added four more shots over the back nine.

“Yeah, it was a great line drive into the tee box and it bounced off the cart path,” DeChambeau joked.

“I had a nice scuff mark. The last time something like that happened was at the 2021 Players Championship on the fourth tee, and it cost me the title. But that shot was more of a thin contact. I actually struck it well. It was a perfect strike straight into the tee box. It was awesome. I just need to avoid hitting with too negative an attack angle next time.”
