The broadcaster's initial explanation was that their team didn't hear the word due to working from a truck. However, the public backlash on social media was swift and severe, raising questions about the communication breakdown between the BBC and Bafta.
But here's where it gets controversial: The BBC later edited out other potentially offensive language from the broadcast, including a political statement and a swear word, but not the racial slur. However, this apology has been deemed insufficient by some, including Hannah Beachler, a production designer, who also experienced a racial slur at the event.
